The Oranges Band Official Update

Over the weekend, we received a big fat Oranges update that we thought we'd share with you all!

Updated October 10, 2008
DOING THINGS!

So much to talk about. I guess I can do them in order... Back at the Maryland Film Festival in the spring I think, Dave Voyles, myself and a movie theater full of people caught the local premiere of an hilarious and totally true documentary about the race for class president at an elite school in New York called Stuyvesant High. The movie is called "Frontrunners" and it features two Oranges Band songs, "My Street" and "Ride the Nuclear Wave". If you noticed me shrinking in my seat while the songs were rather prominently projected it was because I think that is as load as I have ever heard our music. It was unusual. Anyways, the reason I bring it up is that the film premieres nationally at Film Forum in NYC on October 15th and goes and releases nationally on October 24th. The movie was really funny and a great time. Don't miss it!

The Oranges Band have finished the third proper full length album. After the usual amount of pain in my ass our new album, which is tentatively titled "The Oranges Band Are Invisible", will come down from heaven for a very brief visit this fall before returning to live in February. What?! Oh, I mean that we are having a "limited edition pre-release show" at the Ottobar next month on Nov 15 where we will sell the album in a limited edition package. The album then goes into hibernation for the winter before being released into the wild officially in February. We will also have the album for sale at our New York and Washington D.C. shows in November. The album features the incomparable talents of Doug GIllard (yes, from the loudest version of GBV) on the super lead guitar!

Limited Edition Pre-Release Show for "The Oranges Band Are Invisible"
Friday November 14
Baltimore, MD
The Ottobar
The Oranges Band, Gary B.and the Notions, Deleted Scenes, Dead Mechanical

Saturday November 15

The Oranges Band, Deleted Scenes

The world will change rather dramatically well... once it figures out that I have changed it. Every7th.com is my fantastic new subscription service that features the music of Romania, my side project solo material. For the very reasonable price of $1 a month you are granted access to two songs, pictures, videos, blogs and all sorts of inside information that no one else can get to. Come on, it's like a clubhouse. Check it out. Sign it up. All that!

Jesse Michaels Art Show/Live Solo Set In SF!

Jesse Michaels, best known for his iconic vocals in both Operation Ivy and Common Rider will be performing a solo set as a part of the opening night of his new art show "Cataclysm" along with Portland's Doug Burns of the bands The Observers and The Red Dons. The art/music show will be on October 25th at The Onsix Gallery which is at 60 6th Street in San Francisco. Here's a description of the art that will be shown:

Doug Burns and Jesse Michaels will explore cataclysm, or a state of catastrophic change, through two very different but complimentary painting cycles. Michaels’ current work consists of oil paintings on the theme of war. In his nine new paintings, faceless combatants square off in a style reminiscent of early modernism and also recalling the painterly strength sought by the abstract expressionists. The paintings are rendered in oil with a penchant for bold lines and clashing fields of color. “With this work I tried to capture the feeling I had as a young boy drawing war pictures; that strange combination of innocence and naive fascination with violence.” Doug Burns’ paintings address the theme of cataclysm through the exploration of Ayyam Al Jahiliyah, a term which refers to the time before Islam in Arabia. Burns’ works combine great technical ability with a love for abstraction and the random patterns created by dripping paint applied in moody washes. The paintings depict the ancient Bedouin people in a state of mourning over their lost culture and spontaneity.

Ex-Cost Guitarist Sean McArdle Releases New 7"

In a departure from The Cost's big post-post punk onslaught, former guitarist and vocalist, Sean McArdle, just self released a 7" of all accoustic songs entitled, "Still Working". His sparse ballads celebrate love, loss and the virtues of insomnia, and have been described by the Washington Post as "queer and quirky." We're super proud of Sean, and love his latest direction. You can buy the record from his website or check out his Myspace.
